Kinnick NJROTC Marksmanship Team places second at Navy JROTC Area 23 Regional Competition
The Kinnick NJROTC Marksmanship recently placed second at the Navy JROTC Area 23 Regional Competition and earned a spot at the Navy Air Rifle National Championships for the second consecutive year.
The team traveled to Anchorage, Alaska, to compete in the Navy JROTC Area 23 Regional Competition, hosted by the Area 23 Manager. The event brought together the top five NJROTC marksmanship programs in the region.
Kinnick’s team—Keira Hoffman (12th grade), Michailee Honrado (12th grade), Miley Honrado (10th grade), and Shyne Northrop (9th grade)—rose to the challenge, placing second overall, narrowly behind Oak Harbor High School.
This achievement highlights the team’s skill, discipline, and dedication. As Oak Harbor had already secured a qualification for Nationals earlier this season, Kinnick was selected as the Navy JROTC Area Manager’s choice to represent Area 23 from the Pacific at the national level.
The competition also featured standout individual performances. Senior Keira Hoffman placed second overall out of 21 shooters, while freshman Shyne Northrop, the youngest competitor at the event, earned a fourth-place finish.
The Navy Air Rifle National Championships will take place in Columbia, Mo., from Feb. 11–15, where Kinnick will compete against the top NJROTC teams from across the nation.
